Deep grooves in the chewing surfaces of teeth are a common hiding place for dental plaque that cause cavities. These grooves can be difficult to impossible to clean. Dental sealant placement involves cleaning out these grooves and placing a protective covering over the tooth to make it easier to clean. This prevents plaque from getting to these hard to reach places and causing cavities.
